Acetic acid 99%, 80%, 70%

Chemical formula: CH₃COOH

CAS: 64-19-7

Description
Acetic acid (CH₃COOH) is a weak, saturated monocarboxylic acid. Its salts and ester derivatives are collectively known as acetates. This transparent, hygroscopic liquid features a distinctive pungent odor and sharp acidic taste. It is fully miscible with water and readily combines with various inorganic compounds. In its molecular form, acetic acid exists as both cyclic and linear dimers stabilized by hydrogen bonding.

Key Uses:
  • Food Industry: Approved additive E260 — used as a preservative and acidity regulator in pickled vegetables, fruits, cheeses, sauces, and baked goods.
  • Disinfection & Sanitization: Employed as a mild antimicrobial agent for surface cleaning and water treatment in select applications.
  • Chemical Manufacturing: Key feedstock for producing cellulose acetate fibers, acrylic glass (PMMA), pharmaceuticals, and various ester solvents.
  • Agriculture: Acetate salts serve as eco-friendly agents for controlling plant pests and fungal diseases.
  • Textile Industry: Used in dyeing processes as a pH modifier and mordant to improve color fastness on natural and synthetic fabrics.
